Top 5 Benefits of Patchouli

Patchouli is one of those oils that you either love or hate! I happen to hate the scent of Patchouli but the health benefits cannot be ignored just because of a disgusting smell. Others love Patchouli! You have probably smelt it before and not known the name for the scent.

Patchouli is a member of the mint family and has a rich, musky fragrance that is known to instill feelings of balance. The well known aroma of patchouli has commonly been used in the perfume industry to add fragrance to products like laundry detergents and air fresheners. Patchouli has powerful benefits for the skin, for oral health, and for the emotions.

1) Patchouli Oil for the Skin

Because of its gentle cleansing properties, many people use Patchouli oil for skin. Using Patchouli essential oil topically can help promote a smooth, glowing complexion; not to mention, it’s also useful for reducing the appearance of blemishes, skin imperfections, and wrinkles. Try adding one to two drops to your moisturizer to help problem skin areas or apply directly to the skin.

2) Patchouli benefits for oral health

Because Patchouli is part of the mint family it has freshening and deodorizing properties. Try these oral care recipes with Patchouli!

After a long day of work, apply one to two drops of Patchouli oil to the neck or temples to unwind. You can also diffuse Patchouli oil when you want to relieve feelings of tension. Vetiver oil is a sedative oil and can be combined with Patchouli for a calming effect. Mix both oils with a carrier oil and apply to the bottoms of the feet.

4) Patchouli for Hair

Patchouli can be a great oil to use in an all natural hair detangler. Patchouli has astringent properties which are beneficial for oily hair.
